Should I get a Deep Tissue Massage or Sports Massage? If you are an athlete then you probably already know this but there are several benefits that you can receive from a sports massage. The main benefit is that it helps reduce the muscle soreness and stiffness after a workout. This is why it is commonly known as the "after workout" massage because it does not just provide relief from the pain but also works on the muscle fibers. Another reason why athletes prefer to get a sports massage is because it helps in promoting better blood circulation throughout the body.
A deep tissue massage basically is what it sounds like. Your masseuse will use very gentle, yet firm pressure over the deeper muscles in your body, including the larger muscle groups in your back. This helps in reducing inflammation and helps in reducing some of the more stubborn adhesions and knots. Another benefit of a massage is that it is very effective at increasing blood flow. This in turn helps in providing nutrients to the cells in your body and it also improves the amount of oxygenated blood that enters the cells. Some athletes even recommend that they get a massage on a daily basis, as this is known to improve circulation and to give them the added energy that comes with having a good massage.
Now that you know the benefits of getting a massage, the next thing that you need to do is to determine which type of massage you should get. You have several options. You can go for a traditional sports massage, which is where your masseuse would use a lot of pressure, but you also have the option of going for a more advanced massage. A lot of massage therapists have started to incorporate some form of Reiki into their techniques and this allows them to bring the healing power of the earth and nature into the therapeutic process. A lot of people also prefer to get sports massage as this helps in relieving pain and stiffness in the muscles and also promotes relaxation. It also helps in increasing your level of energy and overall well being.
